What Happens at a La Leche League Meeting?

New Beginnings encourages families to connect with La Leche League Groups near them and through online meet-ups as well. Community support is so helpful in breastfeeding, chestfeeding, parenting, and beyond. Wondering what to expect at a meeting? We can help.

What happens at lll meetingsYou can search for a local Leader or Group using our Find Breastfeeding Support Locator Tool. Groups may get togetheri  in person, online, or both. In-person meetings are indicated with red pins and virtual meetings are marked with orange pins.

  • Meetings are FREE with no membership required.
  • Meetings are run by accredited LLL Leaders, parent volunteers who have all breastfed their own children.
  • Leaders are trained by LLL about the normal course of breastfeeding and weaning.
  • Each parent is able to ask questions or contribute to the discussion as they choose.
  • Attendees may also sit and listen if they prefer.
  • Babies and children of all ages are always welcome.
  • Support people are usually welcome, too. Ask the Group Leader for details.
  • Expectant parents are encouraged to attend to help get nursing off to a good start.
  • Take the information that works for you and leave the rest behind.
  • Still feeling unsure? Reach out to the local Leader before the meeting to find out more specifics.

What about virtual meetings?

Many LLL Groups also offer online meet-ups. They are shown on the Locator Map (https://lllusa.org/locator/) with orange pins. While they may look a little different from in-person meetings, the spirit and information shared are the same! Meetings are free and run by LLL Leaders. Each parent is welcome to ask questions and share from their experiences. Children, support people, and pregnant and expectant parents are welcome, just like in-person meetings!

Best of all, there are online gatherings across the country that might fit in your schedule. If you  are in San Diego, perhaps your early waking baby means that a 10am Florida get-together might work best for your family. Or you can attend a West Coast meeting after bedtime. Interested in attending? Check with your local Group, or the event list on the LLL USA Facebook page.

We hope if you aren’t already connected to a Group, you’ll find a community of nursing parents through an LLL Group near you. La Leche League Leaders are eager to support your family.
