Editor’s Note: Live, Love, Latch!® is a National Breastfeeding Month celebration created by La Leche League USA to highlight community support for breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding. When I was encouraged by a co-Leader to take up the open Live, Love, Latch!® Coordinator position, I was extremely nervous and felt overwhelmed. It seemed like it was a big undertaking, but I was reassured by my other Leader friends that I would be okay. Through my first experience coordinating the national event for LLL USA, I learned a lot about myself, the needs of LLL USA Leaders/Groups, and the amazing supportive Leaders who poured into me along the way. There is an amazing team behind the scenes of Live, Love, Latch!®, such as Leaders, committee members and the LLL USA Council.
Live, Love, Latch!® is a unique National Breastfeeding Month celebration, created and presented by La Leche League USA and hosted by LLL USA Groups across the US and beyond. Live, Love, Latch!® events are designed not only to celebrate breastfeeding but also to highlight community support.
This celebration provides an opportunity to educate family, friends, healthcare providers, and other community members about the ways they can support breastfeeding and emphasizes the value of the support network behind every nursing dyad. Live, Love, Latch!® events help show the community that LLL USA is an important resource for each individual lactation journey. We want to share our FREE knowledge and resources.
Events take place during National Breastfeeding Month, which is recognized in August and into September this year. In 2023, LLL USA held 22 Live, Love, Latch!® events across the country with nearly a thousand participants in total!
Take a Look Back at Past Live, Love, Latch!® Events
Over the past ten years since LLL USA started the celebration, Live, Love, Latch!® has offered many interesting features. Take a look through some of these links to learn more about past events.
In 2022 and 2023, La Leche League of Southern California/Nevada sponsored a national virtual art tour that was offered via recorded webinar by ArtMuseLA. Learn more about “The Art and History of Lactation: Infant and Young Child Feeding” here.
Some Live, Love, Latch!® events in 2019 offered screenings of Chocolate Milk, as well as many wonderful local events. During the pandemic years, a virtual 5K Run, Walk, Ride helped breastfeeding supporters to celebrate together wherever they lived while collecting donations and getting exercise. All celebrations provide varied opportunities to educate family, friends, healthcare providers, and other community members about ways they can support breastfeeding. Live, Love, Latch!® also emphasizes the value of the support network behind every nursing family.
Picnics are a great way to gather families and celebrate the gift of human milk! Prizes, activities, and games bring the community together in support of nursing families. This review of one Live, Love, Latch!® picnic highlights an example of one LLL USA Group that offered an enriching event for all participants. There are so many ways to celebrate!

This year, La Leche League USA Leaders and Groups all over the US and Mexico are preparing to celebrate Live, Love, Latch!® again. The theme for this year’s Live, Love, Latch!® is “Yes, You Can!” Participants are encouraged to use the hashtags #LiveLoveLatch #LiLoLa2024 and #LiveLoveLatch2024 on social media to help connect everyone’s events!
