Continuing Support through La Leche League (LLL)
My amazing body has been feeding my children for the past six years. Well, lately only one of them. 🙂
It has been a long ride, especially at the beginning. But nothing is impossible when we have amazing help from La Leche League Leaders.
My journey with LLL started when I was about three months pregnant. I knew I wanted to learn as much as possible about breastfeeding before giving birth. At the LLL meetings I learned about different breastfeeding positions, hand expressing, storing milk, and how to keep baby safe from germs during the holiday season. I enjoyed watching the moms nurse, and seeing how bonding it is, and hoping I will be one of them in a couple of months.
When my first born arrived to this world, she latched on right away. By the time we left the hospital (two days later) I was already in excruciating pain from all the blisters I got from her latch. When I contacted my La Leche League Leader, she gave me ideas that worked. She was patient, she understood the anxiety, the worry I had as a new mom. She talked to me about nipple shields, about how to position baby, how much her mouth needs to be open during nursing, how the corner of her mouth needs to look, etc. She assured me that everything will be okay, just keep believing in myself and that I can do it.
My La Leche League Leader continues to be the support I need — off and on, as questions come up — even till this day, six years later.
Have you found breastfeeding support through La Leche League? You can help support the training of Leaders by making a donation now. Last year, over 270 new volunteer Leaders were accredited in the USA, but there still are many communities where there is no La Leche League support. Please donate to make your tax-deductible contribution now.
