The art of breastfeeding book coverNow that many La Leche League USA Leaders and families all over the world have had a chance to read through some of The Art of Breastfeeding, we want to offer some feedback about the book to our blog readers.

Annie L. shared her thoughts on how the book will impact her support of families as a La Leche League Leader. “I was so excited to hear that the new edition of The Art of Breastfeeding was coming out! I love knowing I have the most up-to-date information to share with families. I love the new title. “Womanly” felt a little old-fashioned to me as a young mom. I think this new edition will feel more accessible to other young families as well.”

LLL USA Leader, Sarah B., had a similar sentiment. “After nursing my own children almost a decade ago, it was refreshing to see some much-needed updates in The Art of Breastfeeding. We have seen lots of changes in research and guidelines over the years. My family appreciates the inclusive and supportive language. Viewing breastfeeding as a team effort, it truly takes a supportive community. As an LLL Leader myself, I really appreciate that the new book reads even more like a La Leche League meeting with anecdotal stories and personal touches, making it all the more relatable. This is a resource that will help future generations to nurture relationships through the art of breastfeeding.”

Looking over the mother's right shoulder at her nursing babyKylie P. appreciated that the book showcases the many varied ways that people breastfeed.  “I love the inclusion of more stories from families in this edition. My favorite thing about La Leche League and LLL books is the spirit of conveying the message that you are not alone. I enjoy reading all of the various perspectives and experiences that families have on their lactation journeys.”

Jessamyn E. stated, “My favorite thing about the 9th edition was the cover, because it showed pictures of real moms and babes!” There are many great photos throughout the book as well, along with personal stories from the families in each photo!

Comments were even sent in from an LLL dad! John P. shared his thoughts. “I was proud to be the first in my household to pick up the book’s eighth edition, and I read every page. Feeding our littles has taken a lot of effort. I wanted to have literally every piece of information so I could be my wife’s and our children’s best supporter. With the title change, it’s easier to see myself as a member of our family feeding team. ‘The Tech Support Tool Kit’ was, and remains, my own primary resource for late-night issues as they pop up! I travel the world for work and have grown personally and professionally when working with my worldwide counterparts – I’m thrilled to see these global voices included in the new edition. Not only can I grow my knowledge through these new nursing perspectives, but they make reading the ninth edition a fresh experience every time I break it out.”
